First 6 Locations to Get Telkomsel 5G Network | Marhan.net - The commercialization of the fifth generation cellular network, also known as 5G, is looming on the horizon in Indonesia. Telkomsel is one of the mobile operators known to have passed the Operational Eligibility Test (ULO) to start rolling out a 5G network in the country.
Communications and Media Minister Johnny J. Plait said that when the ULO process is completed at the PPI Kominfo branch, Telkomsel will offer its first commercial 5G service at six locations in DKI Jakarta.
“Telkomsel initially plans to launch in Jakarta at 6 residential locations, namely Kelapa Gading, Pondok Indah, PIK, BSD, Widya Chandra and Alam Sutera,” Johnny said on Wednesday (19/5/2021).
In addition to the six locations in Jakarta, Johnny added, Telkomsel will also launch commercial 5G services in several other cities, namely Batam, Medan, Solo, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, Denpasar and Balikpapan.
Johnny assured that each cellular operator will provide cellular services with the new technology required to implement the ULO, to ensure that the services provided to the public meet the quality standards.
According to Johnny, mobile operators can use existing and private radio frequency bands to deploy 5G services.
"The radio frequency band Telkomsel plans to use in 5G technology uses a 2.3GHz radio frequency band for the data plane and a 1.8GHz radio frequency band for the control plane," Johnny explained.
Separately, Telkomsel Vice President of Corporate Communications Denny Abedin said that the 5G service will be available later from the general operator in addition to 3G and 4G services, i.e. using your internet package or the PAYU (Pay-as-You-Go) system. .
“Going forward, we will develop 5G products and services that align with customer needs and inputs. This is also done in line with the development of the 5G ecosystem being phased and measurable.”
20 Gbps transparent
The discovery of Telkomsel 5G services started when the cellular operator uploaded 5G related videos on its official YouTube channel.
The video, which is about 4 minutes long, does not actually reveal when Telkomsel will launch 5G in Indonesia.
However, in it, Telkomsel Chief Commissioner Wisnutama Kusubandio revealed the various capabilities of the country's 5G network, if it is also implemented by Telkomsel.
“5G technology will change the rules of the game for the people of Indonesia,” Wisnotama said in a video posted by Telkomsel YouTube channel on Monday (17/5/2021).
Wishnutama said 5G technology is equipped with various improvements compared to the previous generation (4G).
In terms of speed, for example, 5G download speeds can reach 20 Gbps, which is 20 times faster than 4G, which is maintained at 1 Gbps.
“To upload a two-hour video, we only need a few seconds,” Wishnotama said.
Then 5G also claims to have a latency of 1 millisecond which is ten times lower than 4G, and is capable of accommodating about one million devices within a radius of 1 square kilometer, which is 10 times more than what 4G technology supports.
